IYSSE at SUNY Geneseo

IYSSE members lead a student rally in defense of immigrant rights

The Geneseo chapter of the International Youth and Students for Social Equality (IYSSE at Geneseo) fights to mobilize workers and youth in the Geneseo area in the struggle for socialism. The IYSSE at Geneseo has been a recognized student organization at the State University of New York College at Geneseo (SUNY Geneseo) since the 2013-2014 academic year, and since then has held lectures, film screenings and protests.

IYSSE National Secretary Andre Damon, World Socialist Web Site Arts Editor David Walsh, Socialist Equality Party candidate for vice president Niles Niemuth, SEP National Secretary Joseph Kishore and multiple WSWS reporters have spoken at IYSSE at Geneseo meetings.

In March 2016, a family of mixed immigration status was arrested at a road bisecting the SUNY Geneseo campus. IYSSE members and WSWS reporters covered the arrest and spontaneous response from students and residents, including in a photo essay and on a video viewed over 100,000 times. The IYSSE quickly organized a protest on the campus of many students and faculty.

The IYSSE at Geneseo meets every Tuesday at 5:30 PM in Bailey 101. Non-students are welcome to attend. For more information, see our Facebook page or email us at iysse@geneseo.edu.
